Welcome to what will be very sporadic and mostly late session recaps, where I will cover only the most valuable and important insights from each day of the race weekend.
Jenson Button
Jenson our shining star was back on commentary. He was hilarious as always, my personal favorite moment was when they were discussing how Monaco being so tight could effect how you perceive the speed of the car and he was like gotta be honest guys I am not following and when Natalie said it always felt slow (as in easier) he foes, “well some of them did.” It made me think of good idea for an interview question – having a driver rank all their cars. I feel like this would be especially fun for Seb due to his, lets say, personal connection with his cars.
I was also thinking where does Jenson stay when he visits Monaco. This really goes for any of them but he has so many friends who live there do you think he stays in a hotel. Obviously he can afford it but they are all probably slammed with fans and it’s obviously far easier to stay at someones house than a hotel. He probably is just in a hotel idk what rich people do but in my head he’s staying with Nico or one of the other older ones and that thought is amusing to me.
He also threw in a super interesting tidbit about sim work for Monaco. He said that whenever he did sim work forMonaco was always so off they used Istanbul instead. I’m assuming he’s talking about McLaren because that was the last team he drove for and he continued to work with them for a bit after which makes sense that was really in the height of their shitshow era. Hopefully they have improved their sim a bit since lol but it was also very funny that he didn’t mention the team name but it’s like, I think we can put the puzzle pieces together babe. It’s truly alright McLaren were not hiding their struggles well at that time.
James Vowles
In an extremely rare event, Jenson was actually outsassed today by James Vowels. Truly a man after my own heart being like I can’t be fucked to remember what Torro Rosso is called now but the absolute highlight what him simply responding “who?” when asked if they were going to sign Carlos.
On a more on-track related note, he said the Williams will be overweight for a few races. She is working on it okayyyy jeez. Is it bad that my first instinct was to be like, well, it’s promising that they’re going to get there? Potentially. He also talked about how their real objective is the rule change which we already knew and is also kind of common sense. When you’re trying to completely redo the systems and processes of this huge company that operates on very strict timetables doing it on a brand new project makes a lot more sense than trying to fit things in retroactively. It also means though that the project is going to take longer to get off the ground because of that extra work so it’s good that they’re starting early.
Max Verstappen (/Adrian Newy)
I am not falling for your reindeer games Max Verstappen, I am not!!! I have heard your bitching (loving) before and I know that by Q3 that fucker is going to be right up there. That being said, while i’m not ready to pop the champagne to celebrate the field being competitive just yet, it does appear to be tightening up. It could honestly just be a blip, I think the Imola thing was seriously exaggerated. Yes Lando was closing at the end but we won’t know if they were saving the engine or what Max could have increased his pace to if Lando got truly close.
Also when the gap out front is that consistently large through the race a lot of how big the number ends up being is down to chance, or the track, or your strategy so I think it’s a bit silly we’re using it as a bellwether. Monaco is also weird and RB also struggled at Singapore last year which, while not totally the same, is similar in that it’s a tight, high-downforce circuit (though less extreme). HOWEVER if this isn’t a blip it is fucking wild that they started to drop off as soon as they started barring Adrian Newy from technical meetings. Obviously it makes sense to do that but i do find it a bit odd that he’s still in the garage if that is the case like what is the point. But Crofty and Brundle said that he told them that was the case himself in Miami. Just interesting all around, something to keep an eye on going forward.
Charles Leclerc
A star as always. Now, we need to be guarding that car around the clock. Nobody goes in, nobody goes out. Charles is liking the car, it looks fast, and hopefully it will be a good fight for pole. I’m not getting my hopes up though (that’s a lie) because I know Max will pull off a lap so we won’t know where things truly stand untill quali.
Where Is Nico Rosberg??????
Why is our queen not on the broadcast it’s his favorite race, he lives there!!

There is a photo circulating but i have no idea where it originated or if it is even current but it also makes sense for him to physically be in Monaco he could literally just be getting lunch. I need him to get his but to the commentary booth for fp3 tomorrow with Jenson and preferably Natalie but I don’t really care about the third person that much. At the very least I hope he is on some of the weekend coverage, he’s the queen of Monaco the people are crying out!!!!!
